Continuing Tasks October – Mid-December

  • Critically evaluating associated literature on the subject

  • Explore Web-based information on existing repositories both here and overseas

  • Contact overseas repositories and obtain appropriate information

  • Develop a simple but professional web site for both information and data input

Task 1 October 18-31

Draft and distribute appropriate memo to CADET, CADRES, TWP, Deans (in consultation with a representative(s) of the Committee) to:

  • Explain basic issues

  • Explain project plan

  • Request information on the needs of their staff

  • Request information on current projects

  • Request information on relevant contact persons



Task 2 October 18-31

Draft (in consultation with a representative(s) of the Committee) and distribute an email to all academic and ITS/Educational Technology staff within the university to:

  • Explain basic issues

  • Request information on their view of RLO/RLOR needs in their teaching

  • Request information on the way they see they would use RLO/RLOR in their teaching

  • Request information on current projects

  • Offer possibility of interview



Reporting to, and Consultation with, RLO Committee ~ November 1

Aim will be to report back on what has happened in this initial stage and to check that the coverage is appropriate.



Task 3 November 1-November 30

From stages 1 and 2:

  • Identify all current projects and create a data base of this information

  • Identify issues given by staff on the needs, likely utilisation etc

  • Invite a selection of key staff to be interviewed (maximum 30 interviews)



Task 4 November 1-November 15

Identifying RLO related projects conducted under the auspices of AUTC, CAUL and TAFE funders.

Identify those that appear to be most relevent to the issues and interests of Monash



Task 5 November 16-December 20

Contact those Australian Universities and TAFE Institutes that have been found to have RLOR, and related repositories that are relevant to Monash, and arrange visits in order to:

  • Interview staff working on the repository

  • Obtain an understanding of the access to the repository

  • Obtain an understanding of the interface flexibility

  • Define key IP issues



Reporting to, and Consultation with, RLO Committee ~ December 1

Aim to report back on progress to date including a summary of any information that has been collated. Discuss what is coming out of contact withy other universities.



Task 5 December 1-January 21

Draft a report covering:

  • A synopsis of current trends and issues related to RLORs and the anticipated relevance to ESTL and ESR at Monash

  • Current Monash RLORs, including the type of work, originators, identified needs, relevance to ESTL and ESR systems such as WebCT, key stakeholders, outcomes, current status and other relevant information. Plus information on accessibility, flexibility and interface issues.

  • Similar information, at an appropriate level of detail for RLOR and related repositories within other Australian universities. Plus information on accessibility, flexibility, IP and interface issues.

  • Whatever information is available on RLOR and related repositories outside Australia. Plus information on accessibility, flexibility, IP and interface issues.



Task 6 January 22

Deliver draft report to committee



Reporting to, and Consultation with, RLO Committee ~ January 23

To discuss the draft report and to seek guidance on modifications that better meet the Committees brief.



Task 7 January 23-January 28

Modify draft as requested and deliver final copy of report



Task 8 February 11

Executive Summary to Director Learning and Teaching




The Project has been contracted by the Resusable Learning Objects Scoping Committee under the management of CeLTS.

The project is being run by the Computing Education Research Group (CERG) from the Faculty of Information Technology.
